My work and experience

Emily Crawford

Through working as a published online and print journalist at Gay Community News (GCN) and a presenter and producer at Dublin City FM, I have gained over a year of valuable experience in writing, radio and social media.

As a writer at GCN, I wrote daily news articles and banked content. I worked with SEO and used Adobe Photoshop for all my posts. Working here gave me a strong sense of sensitive and cultural writing, defamation laws, and working under strict deadlines to produce clean copy. I was one of six nominated for the 2026 SMEDIAs ‘National Journalist of the Year – National Publication’ for the work I produced while here.

At Dublin City FM, I present the news twice weekly, take out interviews for Good Morning Dublin, and produce the station’s LGBTQ+ show, Queeriosity. I drive live shows, work with Adobe Audition, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro. I also contribute to the social media accounts and utilise PlayOut One on a daily basis.

Aside from my work in media, I have a strong background in customer service as a bartender, server and accommodation assistant. These roles gave me a strong sense of community work, efficiency, and quick problem-solving.

As an incoming final-year Journalism student, I have a strong background in leadership with the LGBTQ+ society, Horror Society, and the Societies Executive. I have won many volunteering awards, and also founded the LGBTQ+ Society’s paper, TheQueery.
